Merchant aggregation is gaining prominence in the payments industry in a growing number of implementations, but only last year did Visa finally expand its aggregation rules beyond e-commerce to cover all merchant types. Though the aggregator model did not gain official sanction from the card networks until recently, it could end up dominating the future of payments.
